I hear it all the time from CT REALTORS®, I would blog, but I just don’t know what to write about. It is a problem that most people who blog face, but it’s one that you can overcome very easily with a little help and a heaping spoonful of creativity.
Not unlike you, I have a challenge to come up with a topic for my blog posts. Sometimes the posts just flow out of my fingers like soda out of a soda fountain, but other days it’s like banging my head against the wall trying to find a few words to get the blog started. I have two blogs that I write virtually everyday, this one and the blog for our public facing website CTReal.com.
If it’s such a challenge to write two blogs everyday, why not just write one a day or one every other day? What’s the big deal?
The big deal is that search engines, especially Google, take into account the most recent material on the web. If you have two blog posts about the same topic and one was written today and one was written two weeks ago, the one that was written today would take precedence in the search results.
The other big deal is that the search engines LOVE content, I mean love it. Think of the search engines as the Cookie Monster of content. The more content you have the happier the search engines will be with your site and the higher your rank will get.
You may not be able to crank out a blog post a day, but think about trying to get two in a week. This will give you good quality content, it won’t stress you out and you’ll be miles ahead of your competition.
Here’s what I do when I am struggling to find something to write about. I start here. This is a great service provided by MSN/Bing that tells you what the top 10 things that people are searching for online this second. This allows you to write a blog that is timely and also that there is a high volume of searches being performed for.
Take for instance this blog post about Maria Menunous. I am not a fan of Dancing With The Stars, but I looked at MSN Now and discovered that there was some controversy surrounding her elimination from the show. I took that topic and ran with it.
This site doesn’t make coming up with blog posts fool proof, but it certainly helps. Rarely will you come across a topic that directly relates back to your blog, but you need to keep thinking creatively and find one of the top 10 to fit into your post that day. You’ll come up with gems, I promise you.
