Internet marketing doesn’t have to be just about boring stuff like Pay Per Click advertising and LinkedIn, it can be so much more and with a little creativity that so much more could turn your business into a locomotive of growth.
Why not start an Internet Meme?
What’s an Internet Meme? I’m glad you asked. Here is the wikipedia page to give you a full definition, but the basic gist is it is really anything that spreads like wildfire online. There are no specific channels that it must travel through, but more often then not an Internet Meme flows through social networks.
You may have seen some Internet Memes without even knowing it.
Have you seen this video for the Dollar Shave Club?
Is that an Internet Meme? It sure is.
You may have seen images like this one floating around Facebook…
More often then not Internet Memes are meant to be funny and reach out to a specific target group, say for instance, first time home buyers. First time home buyers are a great target for Internet Memes.
So how do you go about creating one of these elusive pieces of content that go viral? Of course there is no sure fire way to ensure that something is going to go viral, but here are a few things to think about when working on creating a meme.
1.) Know your target group. If your target group isn’t going to “get it” they won’t want to share it and your efforts will be stopped dead in their tracks.
2.) Be creative. No one is going to share something that is ordinary, it has to strike a chord with them. Make it funny, tie it to an emotion or find some other way to connect to your audience.
3.) Try ANYTHING, I mean ANYTHING. The beauty of the Internet is that you can try a million different things until you get it right. It only takes one viral video or funny e-card to get your business noticed, but it may take hundreds of them before one catches on.
